With shaking hands she served dinner
He walked with a tremble even with the stick
Together they sat on that tattered bench
Under that ageing mango tree
Looking sadly at the strewn fruit
Gone are the days when they were
Relished with enthusiasm by the kids
Now only few squirrels or birds come to pick
Their loving brave son
Fought courageously at the border
Making them proud
Only to return packed in a wooden box
An ever smiling picture of him framed
And preserved forever in their hearts .
